Our Mission

GW BridgeOur mission at the Family Studies in Epilepsy Program is to discover the genetic causes of Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy (IGE) in order to develop new treatment options — free of the side effects of current antiepileptic drugs — that address causes, rather than suppress symptoms. Understanding the genetic origins may also help researchers develop new tests to provide better diagnoses or patients, and to give better and more personalized information for counseling on complications, suitable treatments and eventual outlook.

If you would like to help in our mission you are welcome. We are looking for people who have been diagnosed with epilepsy or have a child who has been diagnosed with epilepsy to take part in our studies. Those who take part in our studies will be helping to find the causes of certain seizure types and to advance science to better understand the genetic origins of epilepsy. They will be contributing towards a brighter future for hundreds of thousands of children and adolescents throughout the world affected with this disorder.
