Controls

Why do we ask for volunteer controls without epilepsy?
To find out what genes are different in people who have epilepsy from those who do not, we need to be able to compare patients with epilepsy to people who do not have epilepsy.

What do we ask from volunteer controls?
We ask volunteers without a family history of epilepsy to provide a sample of saliva in a special container that we provide. The saliva will be used to extract DNA for comparing with the DNA of patients with epilepsy. We do not collect any identifying information from volunteer controls; we collect age, gender, ethnicity, and country of origin from you and your ancestors.

Is your participation confidential?
Your participation remains anonymous and confidential. Your age, ethnic information, gender, your country of origin and that of your ancestors will be stored as a numbered sample with no personal identification.
